The Eastchurch Aviation Observance took place on 18th May 2018.
It was a fantastic day with lots of organisations taking part including the Sheppey Sea Cadets, Eastchurch School, Oasis Academy, 5th Sheppey Scouts, Eastchurch Brownies and Rainbows, the Fleet Air Arm Association and the Royal Naval Association.
The Lord Lieutenant of Kent gave an interesting speech on Aviation and its place in our history. The Memorial guests included the Mayor and Mayoress of Swale, serving and retired members of the Royal Navy, the Police, the FAAA, the RNA,
The children stole the show with poems being read out by both Academy and Primary students. All of those present in the parade were given a certificate to mark the occasion.
The Royal Navy saluted with a flyover by a serving helicopter at the start of the event which was greatly enjoyed by the children in particular. After the brief service, wreaths were laid in commemoration of the end of WW1 with a special wreath of rosemary, lisianthus, roses and ivy being laid by the students of Eastchurch School and the Academy on behalf of all of the children on Sheppey.
Special thanks must go to all of those local organisations who helped to sponsor the event and without who, the Parish Council would not be able to run the event.. Big Local Eastern Sheppey, Swale Borough Council, Fleet Air Arm Association and Kent County Council.
